The Royal Standard is a Grade 2 listed historic public house with a longstanding connection to the area’s mining and agricultural heritage. Located in the heart of Gwinear, our pub has a rich history and has been a gathering place for locals and visitors alike for over a century. It continues to serve the local community, keeping alive the tradition of the Cornish pub as a place for gathering and connecting with neighbours and travellers alike. Its history, along with the charm of Gwinear itself, makes it a cherished landmark within Cornwall’s rich tapestry of local heritage sites. We are proud to continue this tradition and provide a welcoming atmosphere for all.
After spending eight years in Spain, I returned to the UK in 2023 to pursue a culinary career in Cornwall. Beverley, and the family joined me in this endeavour in 2024. We plan to establish The Royal Standard as a family-run business with a focus on providing a great friendly atmosphere for all our clients be they locals or tourists. We will also be definitely dog friendly.
My culinary specialty lies in Caribbean cuisine which will be highlighted on our menu, once we re-open the restaurant, addressing the current lack of Caribbean restaurants in West Cornwall. Additionally, we will ensure our restaurant serves local, organic, and free-range food whenever possible.
The premises also features a campsite with accommodations for ten hookups and wild camping options, along with a shop to supply campers and local residents with essential items and local crafts.
Furthermore, I plan to re-launch our Chilli Sauce business, Flaming Flamenco.
We hope to welcome you to The Royal Standard in 2025.
Chris
